In 1999, Seals on Wheels began by providing preventive dental services to 299 children at two school sites.  Now, with the help of government, private and foundation funding, we reach approximately 6,000 children annually who are socio-economically disadvantaged.  We also manage Teeth-4-Ever, the over 20-year-old state funded California Children’s Dental Disease Prevention Program (CCDDPP) for Orange County, reaching over 30,000 at risk children per year with dental health and nutrition education, fluoride, toothbrushes and dental floss.  Of the 60 schools current CCDDPP funding allows, 35 now receive screening, sealants and referral for treatment.

The Seals on Wheels program, we consider a gift. Over a thousand students have had their teeth checked and hundreds have been able to get their teeth sealed. The Seals on Wheels staff has helped with referrals for dental care and has always been willing to share information with parents and staff. They have also been flexible with their schedules and workstations. They always have a positive attitude and treat the children with such care that we believe our students will not be fearful of dentists in the future. Seals on Wheels is an essential part of our health curriculum in the schools.”
